Narain Karthikeyan, a famous Indian F1 racer champion was born on January 14, 1977 in Coimbatore, India. At his early age he dreamt of becoming a World Champion in the field of motor racing. His father was a former national rally champion in India.
Narain was the first Indian Formula One driver. His first ever race finishing into the Podium was at Sriperumpudur in a Formula Maruti. He was the first Indian to win championship in Europe took part in the British Formula Ford Winter Series. Racing the A1GP in Zhuhai China for Team India, he won first place and become again the first Indian to win A1GP.
In the 17th of November 2009, Narain Karthikeyan became the guest speaker and Global Icon for Change of the first ever Youth Engagement Summit 2009 which was held in Putrajaya International Convention Center, Malaysia. He shared to the thousands of youth in Southeast Asia who attended the summit his insights, ups and downs, and success in his life. In the summit, Lorraine Hahn (noted former presenter for CNN and CBNC) asked him Why F1? He simply answers “When you are young, brave, stupid just catch your dream. Stupidity helps.”
Narain Karthikeyan learned to drive by driving tractors in the rice field. “It’s not an instant success.” , he said. He encourages youth to never give up, when there’s a will there’s a way. “If you start something finish it. Plan your strategies.” , he added.
