Friendster Sold to Malaysian Businessman Vincent Tan

Friendster now has new look, new logo, new layout and new features but there are still alikeness in the Old Friendster. Changes had made in Friendster due to its fading popularity.

Today December 11, I was shocked at the news that Malaysian Businessman Vincent Tan, Chairman of Berjaya Corporation Berhad declares to buy the Social Networking Site Friendster. He will buy 100% of Friendster through an ally company.

Vincent Tan owned the Krispy Kreme, 7-Eleven, Wendy’s, and Starbucks in Southeast Asia. He is one of the richest men in Malaysia according to Forbes.com.

Friendster loses its global popularity because of Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace. Only 0.4 % of internet users are visiting Friendster compared to Facebook’s 29%. Despite of losing popularity, Friendster is still followed in some Southeast Asia countries such as Indonesia, Philippines and Malaysia. Friendster was the first popular Social Networking Site that was launched in 2003 which has now 115 million members.
